BERGEN, Norway --Statoil has contracted with Optoplan to install a permanent 4C reservoir monitoring pilot system at Snorre field in the North Sea in 3Q 2007.

Statoil and Weatherford jointly developed the seismic system. It will be developed further and commercialized in cooperation with Wavefield Inseis ASA. The system intends to be fully optical, incorporating optical seismic sensors.

"This pilot project demonstrate Statoil's commitment to this technology," says Wavefield Inseis CEO Atle Jacobsen. "We anticipate that this step changing 4C fiber optic technology will become an important tool for increasing oil and gas recovery rates."

Optoplan is owned jointly by Weatherford and Wavefield Inseis.
