OSLO, Norway --Petroleum Geo-Services ASA is scheduled to deploy its first permanent seabed 4C fiber-optic seismic monitoring system in deepwater Gulf of Mexico in 4Q 2007 for Chevron Energy Technology Co.

A prototype was tested successfully in collaboration with Chevron in the GoM last summer. The fiber-optic system is a complete passive wet-end system that provides a reliability and durability. PGS says its multiplexing design offers high channel count per cable, low noise and crosstalk properties as well as a high dynamic range.

"Permanent seismic monitoring is becoming an important tool in the reservoir management toolkit. We are excited about this opportunity to work with the advanced technology provided by PGS," says Mark Koelmel, general manager of Earth Science technology, Chevron Energy Technology Co.

"The first permanent deployment of our 4C fiber-optic seismic monitoring system is an important milestone for us," says Sverre Strandenes, group president of PGS Data Processing & Technology. "We are pleased to be working with Chevron who has been very supportive in evaluating our fiber optic technology. The permanent seismic monitoring market is an emerging market with a significant potential. It is our intention to be a major market player."
