STAVANGER, Norway --Statoil has formed a research and development agreement with emgs to develop new software and methods for analyzing electromagnetic data from seabed logging. The one-year contract includes options for a two-year extension covering support and maintenance.

Under the arrangement, emgs will develop new software routines for processing and imaging electromagnetic data, while Statoil will provide funding.

Svein Ellingsrud, VP for research and development at emgs, points out that the two companies have cooperated for a long time, Statoil having been part of the joint venture that first tested seabed logging technology commercially in 2001.
