SUBIACO, Australia -- First Australian Resources says its exploration program offshore Guinea Bissau, northwest Africa, is under way.

Geophysical contractor ARKeX has started work on a BlueQube Marine gravity gradiometry survey in the Sinapa block 2 and Esperanca blocks 4A and 5A. This is a prelude to a 1,600-sq km (618-sq mi) 3D seismic survey, scheduled to begin in mid-September.

An ARKeX spokesman commented: “The application of gravity gradiometry is gaining increasing acceptance in these challenging areas by providing critical information on the morphology of salt and carbonates to improve seismic imaging."

Results of the 3D survey are expected during 1Q 2011.
