LONDON -- The M/V Atlantic Explorer has completed acquisition of 1,520 sq km (587 sq mi) of 3D seismic data over offshore West Sicily thrust belt licenses G.R17.NP, G.R20.NP, G.R21.NP, and G.R22.NP, Northern Petroleum says.

The seismic acquisition is part of the work program funded by Shell Italia E&P under a December 2008 farm-in arrangement. According to the companies, the survey will provide a more complete definition of structures identified by the two previous 2D seismic campaigns, and firm up prospects for drilling.

Under the terms of the farm-in agreement Shell holds 55% in G.R17.NP, and 70% in G.R20.NP, G.R21.NP, and G.R22.NP.
