HANOI, Vietnam – A partnership of Mitra Energy, KUFPEC, and Singapore Petroleum Corp. have completed a 2D seismic survey offshore Vietnam.

The program, which started mid-June, compiled 3,010 and 1,589 line km of full-fold 2D data over respectively blocks 19 and 20. Mitra and its partners signed two production-sharing contracts for these blocks with PetroVietnam in August. Both are located in the western Nam Con Son basin, in water depths ranging from 50-100 m (164-328 ft).

Both PSCs are adjacent to Mitra’s existing concession over blocks 28 and 29/03. Mitra claims they offer similar strong exploration objectives within an as yet undrilled Tertiary half-graben.

Last month, BHP Billiton farmed into blocks 28 and 29/03, where it is now an equal partner with Mitra in the PSC. Since 2007, Mitra has acquired over 3,000 line km of 2D seismic and over 1,500 sq km (579 sq mi) of 3D data in these two blocks.

The partners will use this data to plan the location for two commitment exploratory wells that must be drilled prior to end-2010.
