LONDON -- Seismic operations have begun on the Guyane Maritime license, according to operator Tullow Oil. The Guyane Maritime license covers 35,200 sq km (13,591 sq mi) offshore French Guyane in water depths ranging from 200 to 3,000 m (656 to 9,843 ft).
Interpretation of existing seismic and well data indicates the presence of several large structural and stratigraphic prospects with potential to contain significant hydrocarbon volumes, license partner Northpet Investments says. Recent geological work has identified the presence of stratigraphic prospects developed along the shelf edge and slope. The features are similar in age and form to the oil discoveries such as the Jubilee field, offshore Ghana, the company says.
The 2,500-sq km (965-sq mi) 3D acquisition is expected to be complete by year-end.
