HOUSTON – The M/V Northern Explorer has started a 15,000-km (9,320-mi) multi-client 2D seismic survey for TGS offshore Namibia.

The new data will extend the company’s seismic coverage in the area. The survey grid covers open acreage and will image the main plays due to be drilled later this year and in 2012.

Offshore Namibia has the potential to hold large oil and gas discoveries, TGS claims. The mix of play types in the survey area include basin floor turbidites, slope fans and channels, syn-rift structures and plays similar to those to the north off Angola.

TGS will process the newly acquired data, which will be available to clients early next year.
