Chevron Upstream Europe (CUE) awarded WesternGeco a contract to for a 2D seismic survey using Q-marine technology. The contract is for a 50-day seismic acquisition program in Chevron-operated exploration licenses in the Atlantic Margin off the UK and in Faroese waters.
TheWestern Pride seismic vessel will begin shooting the more than 3,200-km survey this month. The survey covers Faroese license F008 and UK licenses P1025, P1165, P1191, P1193, P1194 and P1196.
The program involves acquisition and processing of long offset data from over/under sources and receivers, which enhance low frequency bandwidth. Improved sub-basalt imaging is a key factor in understanding the region's hydrocarbon potential and delineating exploration opportunities.
"Exploration in the Atlantic Margin is a technical challenge due to the presence of extensive basalt layers. We expect the 2D seismic data to deliver a much clearer picture of the sub-basalt reservoir architecture. Application of these advanced seismic technologies is a key component in the successful evaluation of our extensive acreage in the Atlantic Margin," Brian Smith, CUE general manager of asset development, says.
