LEIDSCHENDAM, The Netherlands — Galp has commissioned Fugro to perform an environmental and geophysical survey offshore Namibia related to a planned exploration program.
Fugro completed fieldwork earlier this month in water depths of up to 2,000 m. A team onboard the vessel Fugro Venturer retrieved sediment samples for environmental and chemical analysis, while an autonomous underwater vehicle captured seabed video footage.
In addition, the company acquired in situ full ocean depth water profiles and water samples to measure the current biodiversity. Collected geodata will support the identification of potentially sensitive habitats, understanding of remote seamounts and project planning/resource management.
The survey should also deliver insights into the underwater landscape, ensuring safe movement and operation of offshore facilities within the designated area.
