SOUTH PERTH, Australia  Searcher Seismic, in cooperation with Larus Energy and Papua New Guinea’s Department of Petroleum & Energy, has started acquisition of the 1,919-sq-km Nanamarope 3D multiclient seismic survey over multiple permits offshore Gulf of Papua.

Nanamarope MC3D will assess and de-risk various prospective plays identified within the Mesozoic and Tertiary intervals; other goals are to improve imaging of secondary play types and resolve velocity contrasts in the subsurface.

The data will support geological understanding of the sparsely explored offshore region and develop drill-ready prospects, Searcher said, close to others identified by a major E&P company in the permit next to the acquisition area.

Searcher has amassed a library of regional seismic, geochemical and airborne data across the Gulf of Papua, shedding light on the region’s tectonostratigraphic evolution of the region and revealing play types with hydrocarbon potential including a new Mid-Miocene turbidite play.

The company aims to deliver fast-track results from the new survey by late third quarter.
