MASSY, France – CGG’s Satellite Mapping group has completed a high-resolution hydrocarbon seeps study over the northern Barents Sea for the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
The aim was to improve knowledge of the petroleum system over the area.
CGG Satellite Mapping configured SAR satellites to acquire a volume of high-spatial-resolution synthetic aperture radar imagery at a high revisit frequency.
Subsequent processing and analysis revealed small-scale, naturally occurring seepage slick features.
Richard Burren, director of Satellite Mapping, CGG, said: “These studies hold great value for increasing geologic system knowledge and decreasing risk, which is of particular interest across marginal areas of mature basins at present.”
