OSLO, Norway PGS says it will acquire three seismic surveys offshore eastern Canada in 2020.

The Blomidon, South Bank, and Torngat Extension GeoStreamer surveys will cover about 10,000 sq km (3,861 sq mi) offshore Newfoundland and Labrador. The surveys are supported by industry funding, the company said.

The Ramform Atlas and Ramform Titan will acquire the surveys between early June and early September. The company said it will deliver fasttrack results this year, and final imaging and interpretation products in early 2021.

Blomidon 3D will cover about 4,000 sq km (1,544 sq mi) of GeoStreamer 3D data over open acreage that will be included in the northeastern Newfoundland Call for Bids, which closes in November 2022. Fasttrack PSTM imaging products are expected to be available for licensing by October 2020. Final imaging and interpretation products will be available in early 2021.

South Bank 3D will cover about 3,000 sq km (1,158 sq mi) with GeoStreamer 3D data over open acreage that will be included in the southeastern Newfoundland Call for Bids, which closes in November 2021. This is the first 3D project in the area, the company said. Fasttrack PSTM imaging products are expected to be available for licensing by the end of the year, with final imaging and interpretation products available in early 2021.

Torngat Extension 3D builds an additional ca. 3,000 sq km on the company’s existing coverage from 2019 acquisition, to create 6,600 sq km (2,548 sq mi) over open acreage that is part of the South Labrador Call for Bids, which closes in November 2021. Fasttrack PSTM Imaging products are expected to be available for licensing by the end of 2020. Final imaging and interpretation products will be ready in early 2021.

Neil Paddy, New Ventures Manager for Canada at PGS, said: “Canada remains a good investment for explorers and we experience significant interest for our multi-client GeoStreamer data in the Newfoundland and Labrador area as GeoStreamer data continues to enhance understanding and unlock new potential.”
