LIMASSOL, CyprusSeaBird Exploration has signed a two-year flexible charter agreement with Uksnøy & Co AS for the 2007-built Geo Barents.

The vessel will be equipped for source, 2D and niche 3D work and should be available from late March.

At the same time the company has decided to decommission the 1985-built Osprey Explorer and transfer its in-sea seismic equipment to the Geo Barents. A final decision on the future of the Harrier Explorer will follow before the vessel’s next scheduled special survey.

In addition, the company has secured a $16-million secured credit facility, part of which will go on outfitting the Fulmar Explorer for seismic operations. The three-month overhaul should start shortly.

These initiatives will give the company an upgraded fleet of six owned and chartered vessels, with what it claims will be a more flexible cost base.
