HOUSTON Oceaneering International Inc. has secured a contract to perform what it claims is the first-ever deepwater autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) survey in Mexican waters.

The geophysical survey will be performed for BHP at the Trion field.

Oceaneering will use the DP-2 Ocean Investigator, equipped with an OS-VI AUV and light geotechnical capabilities.

Work is under way and will continue for about 45 days.

The company will also provide light geotechnical services by acquiring 6-m (20-ft) piston core soil samples.
