Eni awards major contracts for Cyprus' Cronos gas development, advances export route via Egypt

Eni has awarded major EPC, subsea and drilling contracts for the 3-Tcf Cronos gas field offshore Cyprus, moving the project into execution ahead of planned first production in 2027 and gas exports to international markets via Egypt.

Why this news matters:

  • The Cronos project is one of the Eastern Mediterranean's most significant new gas developments and could strengthen regional gas exports to Europe.

  • Leveraging existing Egyptian infrastructure may accelerate development timelines and reduce project costs compared with building new export facilities.

  • The project reinforces Cyprus' emergence as a gas-producing nation while advancing greater energy integration across the Eastern Mediterranean.
