MANILA, the Philippines – Shell has awarded Wood a new six-year contract for the Malampaya deepwater gas-to-power project in the Philippines.
Wood will provide maintenance services, modifications and shutdown support for the offshore facilities at the Malampaya field, near Palawan Island, and the associated onshore complex in Batangas.
The contractor will draw on its local presence in Manila and regional upstream hub in Kuala Lumpur, creating 60 new positions.
Since 2001 Wood has performed integrity management of the field’s subsea pipelines. It also undertook the original front-end engineering design, and EPC of the onshore gas plant in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Malampaya was the start of the country’s natural gas industry, providing 3,200 MW of power to meet around 30-50% of the country’s power generation needs.
