BERGEN, Norway --Statoil has awarded the $74-million contract for the Gjoa platform living quarters to Leirvik Module Technology. Leirvik will undertake engineering, procurement and construction at its yard in Stord, near Bergen.

The completed module will then be installed at the platform at Aker-Kvaerner's nearby yard, the assembly site for both the topsides and hull.

The 3,600 sq m (11,811 sq ft) aluminum living quarters will weigh 1,500 metric tons (1,653 tons), and will include 100 single cabins, offices, a control room, canteen, lounges, a helideck and a lifeboat station. Leirvik should complete the work in 2009. Gjoa lies in Norwegian North Sea blocks 35/9 and 36/7, around 70 km (43.5 mi) north of the Troll complex.
