ABERDEEN, UK --Petrofac Brownfield is working on modifications to the Kittiwake platform, associated with a new pipeline being installed by operator Venture Production.

The modifications, due to be completed by Oct. 1, include the installation of two main oil line pumps, a cooler, a chemical injection skid for wax and corrosion inhibition, two emergency shutdown valves, new DCS/ECD panels, and changes to the existing metering equipment.

The new pipeline will export fluids from fields in the Greater Kittiwake Area to the BP-operated Forties Pipeline System. The previous solution, offloading oil to tankers connected to a single anchor loading buoy, has been subjected frequently to interruptions due to high winds and sea states. It also became increasingly costly as hire rates rose for the tankers.
