OSLO, Norway --BG Norge has terminated an exploration well in the Norwegian North Sea as a dry hole.

Well 7/7-4, drilled by the jack-upMaersk Guardian, was targeting hydrocarbons in a Paleocene Forties interval in production license PL 335, around 50-km (31 mi) north of the Ula field.

The well encountered 68 m (223-ft) of Forties reservoir sands at a depth of 2,760 m (9,055-ft), but these were water-bearing. It was terminated in the top Ekofisk formation. The rig is moving on to PL 274 to drill another exploration well for Dong.
