New pipe tensioning system for China

GOUDA, The Netherlands -- SAS Gouda BV has signed a contract to supply a 200-metric-ton (220.5-ton) pipe tensioning system for a new pipelay barge to be operated by CNOOC subsidiary China Offshore Oil Engineering Co.

SAS will design, manufacture, and supply a complete pipe tensioning system consisting of two 100-metric-ton (110-ton) pipe tensioners and a 200-metric-ton (220.5-ton) abandonment and recovery winch with sheaves, power units, and controls.

The vertical design tensioners will be capable of laying concrete coated pipes as well as other types of coated pipe or bare pipe, SAS says.

The equipment is scheduled for delivery to China in mid-2008.
