DEHRADUN, India -- The ONGC board has approved reconstruction of the NQO platform used in the Mumbai offshore. The platform project comprises work to three platforms that will cost about $57 million, ONGC says.

The NQO process platform is more than 20 years old. Following the implementation of Mumbai High redevelopment project during 2001-07, the Mumbai High North field is now expected to produce oil and gas until at least 2030.

Re-construction is necessary to increase the life of the existing infrastructure facilities to meet the longer field life now expected. The revamping of the platform will also improve safety and efficiency, ONGC says.

The project is scheduled for completion by April, 2009.
