HOUSTON -- Versabar has lifted the largest Katrina-toppled deck to date since the hurricane hit the Gulf of Mexico about two yeas ago, according to the company. Versabar used its Bottom Feeder to salvage Chevron's 1,400-ton (1,422-metric ton) topside from the seafloor in 240 ft (73 m) of water.
The company says the sunken deck was raised above water and set on a barge bound for shore in 3.5 hours. The lifting system has capacity to handle up to 4,000 tons (4,064 metric tons).
Since theBottom Feeder was launched, according to Versabar, it has lifted five decks from the seafloor.
