PETERHEAD, UK -- Scottish Enterprise (SE) has acquired 30 acres (12 ha) of land in Peterhead, north of Aberdeen, to develop an industrial park for applications including offshore decommissioning. SE will work with logistics company ASCO to promote serviced sites and nearby deepwater quays.

A planning application will now be prepared. Depending on demand, the first phase of the Energetica Industry Park could be completed by the end of 2011.

SE says that over the next 20 years, the North Sea offshore industry will decommission many producing installations, with total costs estimated at £15–20 billion ($21.6-$28.8 billion).
