ABERDEEN -- Xcite Energy Resources has appointed Amec to help develop the Bentley heavy oil field in the UK North Sea, 160 km (99 mi) east of the Shetland Islands.
Amec will work as part of Xcite’s project consortium, providing technical consultancy, engineering and project management for a well test program scheduled to start mid-year.
Bentley’s first-phase development is due to start production in 2011, followed at an unstipulated point by the full field development.
Xcite plans to develop the Bentley reservoir by implementing new technologies tailored for heavy oil production. It estimates recoverable resources at around 160 MMbbl.
The company believes that Amec’s heavy oil experience and flow assurance capability, coupled with the consortium’s drilling and subsurface capabilities, should maximize the likelihood of a successful test program.
Amec will run the project from its offices in Aberdeen, supported by its worldwide network.
