South Pars phases near halfway stage

Phases 15 and 16 of the South Pars gas field projects in the Persian Gulf are 47% complete, according to Iranian news service Shana.

TEHRAN -- Phases 15 and 16 of the South Pars gas field projects in the Persian Gulf are 47% complete, according to Iranian news service Shana.

The projects’ director, Abolghase Nobakhti, told Shana that construction of the platforms’ topsides and jackets was 41.2% complete. Development drilling has reached 34.2% of the scheduled program, pipelay 62%, and building of an associated refinery 49%.

Neither project had been affected so far by funding issues, in fact more funds will be invested on a regular monthly basis, Nobakhti claimed. Currently 6,000 people are employed on the two phases, a figure which will climb to 15-16,000 during peak activity later this year, he added.
