TEHRAN -- Iran is trying to speed up development of the remaining phases of the South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf.

Dr Ali Vakili, managing director of Pars Oil and Gas Co. (POGC), told Iranian news service Shana that the company was looking to implement these phases within the next 35 months.

By drawing on experience from design and basic studies for process plants in previous phases, he added, POGC aimed hoped to reduce the timeframe for the newer phases by 12 months.

Previously, POGC has been involved in a maximum of seven simultaneous development phases at South Pars, but according to Vakili, it is now working on 18 phases. Iran has committed $6 billion to these phases during the first half of the current Iranian year (which started on March 21), he added.
