SHARJAH, UAE -- Dana Gas has completed early work on a 25-year oil and gas concession offshore Sharjah, awarded in March 2008.

The concession, the company’s first offshore upstream asset, covers over 1,000 sq km (386 sq mi) and includes part of the Zora gas field, which has proven gas reserves and a ready market.

The project is in its initial phase, which includes upstream development and transportation of produced gas and condensates via a 25-km (15.5-mi) offshore pipeline.

Detailed engineering has been completed for the offshore platform, as has conceptual engineering design for the onshore gas processing plant. Dana Gas is preparing to award management, engineering, procurement, construction, and installation contracts.

The company also holds a 35% interest in Crescent National Gas Corp, affiliated to Crescent Petroleum, which has been in negotiations with NIOC to receive gas from fields offshore Iran.

After a delay of more than four years, Dana Gas understands that NIOC has introduced hydrocarbons into the completed upstream facilities to progress commissioning and testing activities. This potentially allows a start to contracted gas deliveries.

Crescent Petroleum served NIOC with an arbitration notice several months ago, and the legal process is under way.
