STAVANGER -- BP Norge has contracted Aker Solutions for hook-up of the new process and hotel (PH) platform at the Valhall complex in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

Modules for this platform are under construction at various yards, and will be transported to the Valhall field next summer, to be followed by the hook-up and commissioning phase. Aker Solutions’ scope also includes commissioning assistance. The company estimates the value of its contract at around NOK 450 million ($802 million).

Valhall was put into production in 1982. Today the field center consists of five installations. The new PH platform will replace the existing WP and PCP quarter and production platforms, which will be phased out gradually due to subsidence. PH will provide accommodation for 180 persons and production capacity for 120 MMb/d of oil and 143 MMcf/d of gas.

The hook-up contract is a call-off from an existing modifications and maintenance support contract with BP Norge. Work was due start immediately and should be completed in February 2011. The contract party is Aker Solutions' subsidiary Aker Offshore Partner.
