OSLO -- StatoilHydro has awarded Aker Solutions a front-end engineering design (FEED) study for upgrading the Gullfaks A drilling facilities. Aker’s scope of work includes new equipment to increase drilling capacity and modification of existing offshore installations. According to StatoilHydro, the study will evaluate upgrading the drilling capacity to reach 10 km (6.2 mi), including heavy lifting to install a new derrick.
Work under the contract starts immediately and the FEED will be completed in April 2010.
The study will be performed by Aker Solutions' drilling equipment business hub in Kristiansand and its center of maintenance and modification in Bergen.
