ABERDEEN -- Xcite Energy has upgraded its assessment of reserves at its Bentley heavy oil field in UK North Sea block 9/3b.
Following the re-interpretation of re-processed 3D seismic data over the field, Xcite estimates in-place oil for “the most likely structure” at 689 MMbboe. Of this, 80-166 MMbbl could be recovered through installation of a single platform on the field’s core area, and perhaps a further 29-54 MMbbl through the addition of a southern drill center.
In July, the company reached agreement with Fugro Well Services for a geotechnical test well and a seabed survey later this year on Bentley, the well to be drilled by the Synergy vessel. The memorandum of understanding also includes an option to drill and test a pre-development well (9/3b-R) on Bentley during a 45-day program between July and September 2010.
Xcite says planning for the next phase of the field’s development will continue in the context of current economic conditions, with the formation of industry partnerships leading to a range of development solutions.
