LONDON, July 3 -- Petroleum Geo-Services Group ASA unit PGS Geophysical opened a data processing center in Almaty on the back of a joint activity agreement with the GIS Center, a limited partnership with the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The facility will house an advanced processing system with communication systems connecting the new base to existing PGS offices overseas.

"We hope that in using highly talented local specialists alongside our experienced staff will allow a technology transfer that will benefit both the local community and PGS," said PGS Data Processing Pres. Chris Usher.

The original deal with GIS was signed on May 15.
