GREAT YARMOUTH, UK – Statoil has commissioned Claxton to provide “rigless recovery” of seven abandoned wells on the Huldra platform in the Norwegian North Sea.
The program is expected to start in December and take around three weeks to complete. Claxton’s scope of work includes project planning, severance, and full multiple string recovery.
It will perform conductor and casing severance using its latest recovery tower and the Sabre abrasive cutting system. This and all ancillary equipment are said to be NORSOK-compliant to Z-015, with the recovery tower having a safe working load of 300 metric tons (330 tons), and a modular system footprint design said to minimize rig-up time and complexity.
Laura Claxton, managing director, said the company had performed the world’s first rigless platform well abandonment campaign on the UK’s Esmond, Forbes, and Gordon fields in the North Sea in 1995 and had since completed more than 280 cutting and recovery projects.
