FORNEBU, Norway  Shell UK has contracted Aker Solutions to provide a not permanently attended installation (NPAI) for the Jackdaw gas field development in the UK central North Sea.

It follows completion of FEED work, awarded to Aker Solutions in June 2019.

The scope includes engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of the entire wellhead platform, comprising a topside and a steel jacket, and associated load-out and offshore hook-up/commissioning duties.

Fabrication will take place at Aker Solutions’ yard in Verdal, western Norway, with more than 300 people expected to work on the project at peak.

The steel substructure will include a pre-drilling deck, to be delivered to Shell in 2023, followed by the topside in 2024. In the project, Aker Solutions will also continue its cooperation with Rambøll and Leirvik, both of which helped develop the FEED.

At peak, Jackdaw would account for more than 6% of projected UK North Sea gas production in the middle of this decade.

Sturla Magnus, executive vice president and head of Aker Solutions’ topsides and facilities business, said, “We will build on our strong topside solutions and executions model, which involves reusing facilities and equipment and bringing onboard solid experience from similar developments from both internal Aker Solutions resources and external partners.”
