OSLO, NorwayNeptune Energy has the go-ahead from the Norwegian authorities to start production from the Duva oil and gas field in the North Sea.

The location is in license 636, 14 km (8.7 mi) northeast of the Neptune-operated Gjøa field.

Development, designed to recover 71 MMboe, comprises three oil producer wells and one gas producer, connected via a single subsea template tied into existing subsea infrastructure on Gjøa.

From there, the wellstream is routed to Gjøa semisubmersible platform for processing. Oil will be exported to Mongstad in Vestland county, and the gas to the UK.

Neptune estimates the project cost to date at around NOK 5.1 billion ($583 million), and expects to achieve start-up in August, a few months behind schedule due to COVID-related impacts.

Kalmar Ildstad, director of license management at the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, said: “Duva is the first discovery to be developed in the Agat formation, and we're hoping for additional discoveries and developments in the same formation.

“This development is a good example of how to utilize existing infrastructure in adjacent licenses in tail-end production to achieve good, cost-effective solutions for the companies and society.”
