SEOUL, South Korea North Oil Co. has contracted Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) to build a fixed platform for the Al-Shaheen oil field offshore Qatar.

The contract is valued at about KRW 725.3 billion ($635 million).

This platform will consist of a topsides, jacket, and an interconnection bridge with other facilities. Construction is expected to be completed by the second half of 2023.

Located 80 km (50 mi) north of Ras Laffan, Al-Shaheen is Qatar’s largest offshore oil field. It consists of 33 platforms and more than 300 wells. Water depth is 60 m (197 ft).

Last month, Petrobras contracted DSME, in a joint venture with Saipem, to build the eighth FPSO for the Búzios field in the presalt Santos basin offshore Brazil.

According to DSME, this is the first time in eight years that it has won multiple offshore facility orders in one year.
