ABERDEEN, UKIthaca Energy has sanctioned the Abigail (ex-Hurricane) field development in the UK central North Sea, and anticipates approval from the Oil and Gas Authority in the current quarter.

Abigail will be tied back to the Greater Stella Area (GSA) facilities, with first oil anticipated in summer 2022.

Ithaca is also progressing subsurface and engineering studies for GSA satellite fields, Austen and Courageous.

Planning continues on a second stage polymer EOR program at Ithaca’s Captain oilfield in the Outer Moray Firth. This will involve drilling of up to four more producer and six injector wells to optimize recovery from the area of the Upper Captain Sands reservoir produced via subsea wells.

Ithaca plans to install 6-km (4-mi) subsea pipelines and umbilicals to the two subsea areas of the field to supply the required polymer injection capacity, along with additional polymer storage tanks and pumps on the Captain platform and FPSO.

Supply chain tendering activities are under way: Ithaca was aiming to sanction the development before the end of March.

Its long-term goal is to sustain oil recovery from the field into the 2030s.
