ABERDEEN, UKParkmead Group has agreed in principle to take over as operator of the Platypus gas field development in the UK southern North Sea, and has started supply chain discussions.

CalEnergy Resources is the other partner on the project.

The change of operatorship from current incumbent Dana Petroleum is subject to regulatory approvals.

A field development plan and environmental statement, both already drafted, are currently being updated.

Parkmead estimates mid-case recoverable reserves at 103 bcf, with peak gas production of more than 60 MMcf/d.

There is upside in the project from Platypus East (ex-Possum), which could add a further 50 bcf recoverable.

Platypus, discovered in 2010, is in blocks 47/5b and 48/1a, 18 km (11.2 mi) northwest of the West Sole gas field and 15 km (9.3 mi) southwest of the Babbage gas field.
