PERTH, Western Australia – President Macky Sall of Senegal has renamed the SNE field the Sangomar field to better reflect its association with the people of Senegal.

Located in the Sangomar Deep Offshore block, 100 km (62 mi) south of Dakar, this will be Senegal’s first offshore oil development.

Sangomar is the geographical name for an island located at the southern point of the Petite Cote, that runs south from Dakar. Sangomar is an important cultural area inhabited by the Serere people of Senegal and is part of the Saloum Delta National Park.

Operator Woodside and its partners Cairn Energy, FAR Ltd., and Petrosen are targeting a final investment decision by the end of the year.

With an estimated 5 Bbbl of oil in place, the Sangomar field will be developed in phases.

Phase 1 will include up to 23 wells to recover ~230 MMbbl, a converted FPSO with a production capacity of 100,000 b/d of oil, subsea production infrastructure, and infrastructure to allow for future phases and nearby field tiebacks.
