Afentra targets Pacassa SW and Impala upside with Block 3/05 drilling program

A Sonangol-financed, two-well campaign offshore Angola could unlock up to 120 MMbbl of recoverable resources if successful, with first drilling expected imminently.

Afentra says the partners in shallow-water Block 3/05 offshore Angola expect a two-well program to start shortly, according to the company's recent Block 3/05 Drilling Update presentation.

It follows the signing of an agreement with Sonangol to use the Borr Grid jackup. Sonangol will also finance the campaign, with the costs to be recovered from future incremental production revenues from the two wells.

The Pacassa SW exploration well is set to spud in the next few days, with an anticipated duration of 80 to 90 days. Depending on the results, the second well will be either a Pacassa SW injector or the Impala-2 development well.

Pacassa SW is an un-drilled fault block adjacent to the producing Pacassa Field that may contain up to 210 MMbbl of oil in place. The well will be drilled from the Pacassa F4 platform; if successful the well would be completed and tied in to existing production infrastructure.

In that event, the partners would seek to define the full development of the Pacassa SW area, targeting up to 70 MMbbl of recoverable oil.

Impala-2 would be drilled from the Impala wellhead platform into the Impala Field, about 1,000 m from the existing Impala-1 production well. The aim here is to help define the field’s upside potential (it is thought to hold up to 200 MMbbl of oil in place).

Again, the well would be connected post-completion to production infrastructure, with the findings assisting optimization of the full Impala Field development (up to 50 MMbbl of incremental recoverable resources).
