Murphy discloses US Gulf drilling line-ups for 2025-27
Murphy Oil has issued an update on its operations and projects in the US Gulf of Mexico and offshore Vietnam.
During Q1, the company brought onstream the Mormont #4 (Green Canyon 478) well and progressed a workover of the Samurai #3 (Green Canyon 432) workover. This well should be restored to service by mid-year.
Other plans going forward are progressing the operated Khaleesi #2 and Marmalard #3 workovers, with both wells expected to be back online this summer.
A further workover is planned at Delta House, while plans for King’s Quay include four new development wells and two workovers during 2025-27. In addition, Murphy expects to drill one development well next year on both Dalmatian and Chinook.
Its non-operated program at present comprises two development wells on the Lucius field in 2026; one at St. Malo in 2026-27; and two development wells on Zephyrus (2025-26). Murphy also acquired interests in five blocks close to Zephyrus recently for $1.4 million: these will provide access to the field’s southern extension, and numerous exploration prospects.
Having agreed to purchase the BW Pioneer FPSO from BW Offshore for $104 million net, the vessel will continue to support operations at the Cascade and Chinook fields (Walker Ridge 206, 250, 425 and 469), with BW Offshore providing operations and maintenance under a new five-year contract.
In the Cuu Long basin offshore southern Vietnam, Murphy recently made a new oil discovery in Block 15-1/05. The Lac Da Hong-1X (Pink Camel) well was drilled 34 mi offshore Vietnam and 3 mi southwest of the company’s current Lac Da Vang (Golden Camel) field development.
Eric M. Hambly, president and CEO, said: “The Lac Da Hong discovery, combined with the recently announced Hai Su Vang (Golden Sea Lion) discovery, deepens our understanding of the resource potential in our Cuu Long basin blocks. Each of these discoveries validates our exploration strategy and helps optimize future development plans in the Cuu Long basin.”
