ATHENS, Greece — Energean’s latest infill drilling campaign in the West Nile Delta offshore Egypt has proven more gas than anticipated.

A well on the shallow-water Abu Qir Field drilled from the North Abu Qir PII platform delivered 270 ft of net pay across the BKES-1 and Abu Madi formations, twice pre-drill expectations.

Early analysis suggests 87 Bcf to 129 Bcf in place. The well also encountered a possible liquids column of about 55 ft.

First production should follow this summer.

Offshore Sicily, drilling operations continue on the Eni-led Cassiopea gas field development, with startup expected during the third quarter.

Elsewhere, Energean, as new operator of the Lixus license offshore western Morocco, has signed a rig contract with Stena Drilling for the Anchois appraisal well. Drilling is due to get underway in August.

In addition, the company has ordered long-lead items ordered for its planned Katlan development offshore Israel ahead of FID.
