NPD sanctions two frontier offshore Norway wells

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has sanctioned two exploratory wells.

OSLO, Norway – The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has sanctioned two exploratory wells.

The semisubmersibleSonga Enabler will drill well 7220/5-3 on the Jurassic Skruis prospect in production license 532 in the Barents Sea for Equinor.

This will be the ninth well on the license, originally awarded in 2009. The location is 3 km (1.9 mi) north of the 7220/5-2 Nunatak gas discovery in the Johan Castberg area, 245 km (152 mi) northwest of Hammerfest.

Total E&P Norge has permission to use the semisubScarabeo 8 to drill well 6406/6-5 S in PL255B in the Norwegian Sea, 12 km (7.5 mi) north of the 6406/9-1 Linnorm gas discovery and 270 km (168 mi) southwest of Brønnøysund.

This will test another Jurassic prospect called Jasper.

It will be the first well on the permit, awarded in May 2016.
