Archer extends drilling program to four more Equinor platforms
Offshore staff
STAVANGER, Norway – Archer is providing integrated drilling, engineering, rentals, and well services on 13 Equinor-operated platform drilling and quarters (PDQ) platforms offshore Norway.
This follows a contract award from Equinor last April. Archer has since cross-trained its own and service contractor personnel, while at the same time expanding its workforce by more than 400, said Joachim Bengtsson, the company’s operations manager for Equinor.
Since the start of this month, it has assumed responsibility for the Grane, Gullfaks A, B, and C platforms in the North Sea.
The contract runs until at least Oct. 1, 2022 (extendable through 2028) and is valued at more than NOK6 billion ($730 million) based on the current drilling schedule.
Bengtsson said the arrangement “represents a new chapter in the delivery of platform drilling services to Equinor, whereby the drilling contractor, service contractors, and Equinor will collaborate as one team, and jointly deploy resources and skills to optimize well deliveries.
“Our main objectives are improved efficiency, reduced POB [personnel on board] and cost per well, reduced carbon foot print and reduced risk exposure for personnel with no harm to people as our first priority.”
