OSLO, Norway – Equinor will drill an exploration well early next year in the Utsira High region of the Norwegian North Sea, following approval from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA).

ThesemisubmersibleTransocean Spitsbergen will start drilling well 25/6-6 S in license PL 870 in early January. Water depth at the location, 115 km (71.5 mi) offshore, is 123 m (403 ft). Operations should last 35 days.

The PSA has also authorized Lundin Norway to alter its emergency back-up plans for the Edvard Grieg field in the same region.

Lundin wants to replace the emergency response vessel currently dedicated to the field complex with the service offered under the area contingency planning scheme for the entire Sleipner-Utsira area, shared by various companies.

It already participates in the scheme with respect to search and rescue and ocean monitoring services.
