DUBLIN, Ireland – The deepwater drillship Stena IceMAX has departed its base in Las Palmas, the Canary Islands, and should reach western Ireland in the next few days.

Capricorn Ireland and partners Providence Resources and Sosina Exploration have contracted the rig to drill exploration well 53/6-A on the Palaeocene/Lower Cretaceous Druid and Drombeg prospects in frontier exploration license 2/14 in the southern Porcupine basin.

The Commission for Energy Regulation has granted a safety permit for Well Work activities for operator Providence’s Well Work Safety Case and Stena’s Non-Production Safety Case, and the rig should arrive at the planned well location next Monday.
