HOUSTONVAALCO Energy says its 4Q 2016 production offshore Gabon declined to 3,772 b/d, mainly due to electrical submersible pump (ESP) failures at the Avouma field.

However, following workover operations with a hydraulic workover unit on the South Tchibala 2-H and theAvouma 2-H wells, both were restored to production.

The detailed inspection of the failed ESP components continues and the company expects to determine the cause of the failures by mid-year.

VAALCO also continues to examine alternative, lower cost development options for discoveries in block P offshore Equatorial Guinea. It claims these present unique development opportunities that will be re-evaluated as prices continue to recover.
