No pay for Pomboo-1

Woodside Petroleum Ltd. has completed drilling on exploration well Pomboo-1 in block L-5 in the Lamu basin offshore Kenya. Pomboo-1 reached 4,887 m (16,033 ft) TD, but failed to encounter hydrocarbons, a company report says.

NAIROBI, Kenya -- Woodside Petroleum Ltd. has completed drilling on exploration well Pomboo-1 in block L-5 in the Lamu basin offshore Kenya. Pomboo-1 reached 4,887 m (16,033 ft) TD, but failed to encounter hydrocarbons, a company report says.

The well is about 350 km (217 mi) northeast of Mombasa in 2,200 m (7,217 ft) water depth. According to Woodside, theChikyu drillship was to plug and abandon the well.

Joint venturers in block L-5 includeWoodside Energy (Kenya) Pty Ltd., which operates the block with 30% interest, and partners Dana Petroleum (E&P) Ltd. with 30% interest, Repsol Exploracion S.A. with 20% interest, and Global Petroleum Ltd. with the remaining 20% interest.
