LONDON, UK -Mediterranean Oil & Gas (MOG) has secured a slot with an ENI-contracted jackup to drill an appraisal well offshore Italy's Adriatic coast. Drilling is scheduled to start in January 2008.

MOG will appraise new targets in the Ombrina Mare field, where the original discovery well achieved oil production of 428 b/d during an extended test. The new well will first test vertically the two main reservoirs of Mio-Oligocene and Cretaceous age, before penetrating horizontally the main Mio-Oligocene carbonate reservoir.

The company's technical studies to date suggest potential in-place reserves of 165 MMbbl, with upper-end estimates for peak production of 13,650 b/d of oil.
