ABERDEEN, UK --Talisman Energy (UK) has employed protection equipment from Red Spider on its first through tubing rotary drilling (TTRD) project.

Red Spider supplied its 5 ½-in. (14-cm) TTRD protection sleeve for three wells on the Claymore field in the central North Sea. The sleeve was run a shield which was positioned inside the tubing-retrievable subsurface safety valve, to protect it from the impact of additional activity being undertaken through the device.

The company's liner drop-off system was also employed, serving as a disconnect point during liner deployment operations. This was Red Spider's first application of its system in a UK field, following earlier applications in the Norwegian sector for Statoil and Hydro.
